The Story
Why it exists.
In 2022, KILIAN Paris marked its 15th anniversary with a collection of limited editions, each housed in bottles adorned with a design inspired by the Eiffel Tower's iconic lighthouses. Sacred Wood Anniversary Edition joined this celebration, wearing its commemorative packaging like a medal of honor. But the story within the bottle stretches back further, to 2014, when Calice Becker first composed this love letter to Mysore sandalwood.

The Beginning
In 2022, KILIAN Paris marked its 15th anniversary with a collection of limited editions, each housed in bottles adorned with a design inspired by the Eiffel Tower's iconic lighthouses. Sacred Wood Anniversary Edition joined this celebration, wearing its commemorative packaging like a medal of honor. But the story within the bottle stretches back further, to 2014, when Calice Becker first composed this love letter to Mysore sandalwood.
The original Sacred Wood emerged from Becker's fascination with one of perfumery's most legendary and endangered materials. Mysore sandalwood, harvested from the Santalum album trees of southern India, had become increasingly rare due to overharvesting and export restrictions. Becker set out to recreate its complex character using sustainable alternatives, a challenge that would define the fragrance's identity.
The Evolution
Between the original 2014 release and this 2022 Anniversary Edition, Sacred Wood established itself as a quiet cult favorite. While other sandalwood fragrances chased volume and projection, Sacred Wood remained resolutely intimate. The Anniversary Edition preserves this DNA while offering collectors a piece of KILIAN history. The Eiffel Tower design honors the brand's French heritage, a visual reminder that this is Parisian luxury refracted through the lens of Eastern spirituality. Today, Sacred Wood stands as proof that restraint can be more compelling than excess.
Cultural Impact
Sacred Wood occupies a unique position in the sandalwood fragrance canon. While Le Labo's Santal 33 became the viral, instantly recognizable sandalwood of the 2010s, Sacred Wood carved out a quieter niche. It is the sandalwood for those who find Santal 33 too loud, too obvious, too everywhere. In fragrance communities, owning Sacred Wood signals a certain sophistication, an appreciation for subtlety over statement. The fragrance has influenced a generation of sandalwood compositions that prioritize creaminess and intimacy over projection and power.

The Creator
Calice BeckerKILIAN Paris was founded in 2007 by Kilian Hennessy, grandson of the founder of the LVMH group. Raised among the cognac cellars of his family's estate, Hennessy developed an appreciation for luxury craftsmanship and the art of scent. The brand reflects his dual passions: fragrance and sustainable luxury. Every KILIAN bottle is designed to be refillable and kept forever, challenging the disposable culture of modern perfumery. The 15th Anniversary Edition collection, released in 2022, celebrated this heritage with designs inspired by the Eiffel Tower, paying tribute to the brand's Parisian roots while looking toward the future.
