The Story
Why it exists.
Moon Fiction was born in 2022 when Jérôme Epinette was asked to translate a moonlit night into scent for & Other Stories. The brief imagined the soft glow of a lunar landscape reflected in a quiet city balcony, where citrus‑sharp ginger meets the cool bite of bergamot and lime. From that spark, a single peach note was added to give the imagined night a hint of sweet warmth, while the base of musk, ambroxan and sandalwood grounds the composition like the earth beneath the moon’s glow.

The Beginning
Moon Fiction was born in 2022 when Jérôme Epinette was asked to translate a moonlit night into scent for & Other Stories. The brief imagined the soft glow of a lunar landscape reflected in a quiet city balcony, where citrus‑sharp ginger meets the cool bite of bergamot and lime. From that spark, a single peach note was added to give the imagined night a hint of sweet warmth, while the base of musk, ambroxan and sandalwood grounds the composition like the earth beneath the moon’s glow.
Choosing African ginger as the top spark gives the opening an unexpected, clean heat that feels more like sunrise on a moonlit horizon than a typical spice. The trio of bergamot, lime and ginger creates a bright, slightly spicy citrus that never turns sour, while the peach heart softens the edge, making the transition to the musky‑woody drydown feel seamless. The synthetic amber‑like ambroxan adds a subtle radiance, letting the scent linger without overwhelming, a hallmark of Epinette’s modern approach.
The Evolution
At first, the fragrance hits like a crisp night breeze, the ginger’s zing cutting through the citrus, instantly waking the senses. Within minutes the lime and bergamot settle, painting a luminous backdrop that feels like moonlight on glass. Around the ten‑minute mark the peach emerges, a gentle blush that smooths the sharp opening. As the heart fades, the base unfurls: musk provides a soft animalic whisper, ambroxan injects a clean, almost metallic glow, and sandalwood adds creamy woodiness. The drydown settles into a subtle, powdery warmth that lasts roughly four to six hours on skin, leaving a faint, comforting trace that feels like a quiet after‑glow rather than a lingering cloud.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2022 debut, Moon Fiction has become a go‑to summer staple for fans of crisp citrus with a soft peach heart, often mentioned alongside the brand’s other limited releases like Perfect Pistachio and Punk Bouquet. Its moderate sillage and approachable vibe have earned it a spot in casual‑day wardrobes across Europe, where wearers appreciate its fresh lift without overwhelming presence.
