Heritage
A house, in its own words
Velvetvelo emerged from the imagination of Serge Rach, an adventurer and sportsman who also serves as president of Avemi Luxury Distribution. The brand was created in Nice, a city on the Côte d'Azur known for its proximity to both the Mediterranean Sea and the Maritime Alps, a geography that appears central to the house's identity. Launched in 2023, Velvetvelo entered the fragrance scene with three debut compositions: Un Homme A La Mer, Rue Des Mimosas, and Archimede In Love. The name itself reflects a duality the founder sought to express, pairing velvet (softness, texture) with velo (speed, momentum in Italian). This linguistic blend mirrors the tension between refinement and movement that Rach, described as an outdoor enthusiast drawn to both sea and mountain environments, wanted to capture in a fragrance collection. The house's positioning within Avemi Luxury Distribution connects it to an existing distribution network, giving the young brand infrastructure uncommon for a startup in the niche fragrance space. As a 2023 launch, Velvetvelo remains in its earliest chapter, with its heritage still being written composition by composition. Velvetvelo approaches perfumery from a starting point that diverges from convention: the decision to build fragrances on a water base rather than alcohol. This choice stems from the founder's vision of scents designed for active, outdoor-oriented lives, compositions that could accompany someone between sea and mountain rather than exist solely in formal or evening contexts. The house describes its creations as 'Haute Performance' fragrances, a framing that connects scent to movement, durability, and lifestyle rather than to static luxury imagery. Each of the three debut names carries narrative or geographic weight: Un Homme A La Mer evokes the Mediterranean, Rue Des Mimosas conjures a specific Provençal street in bloom, and Archimede In Love hints at classical mythology filtered through romance. This suggests a philosophy rooted in storytelling and place, where fragrance serves as a portable evocation of moments and environments rather than an abstract olfactory exercise. The brand's rejection of alcohol also reflects an awareness of skin sensitivity, regulatory shifts, and consumer curiosity about alternative formats, positioning Velvetvelo within a broader movement questioning inherited perfumery norms.
