The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rêve Enchanté arrived in 2015, following other releases in Van Cleef & Arpels' Rêve line. The composition centers on bright, juicy fruit notes that open the fragrance with crisp energy, while white flowers provide a softer counterpoint that lingers in the air. The interplay between these two directions gives the scent a particular character, something that feels both immediate and enduring. Emilie Coppermann structured the fragrance so that the opening notes do not simply vanish once the heart develops; instead, they remain present, part of a continuous experience rather than a sequence of distinct phases. The result is a scent that invites you to keep discovering it, each wearing revealing something slightly new.
Pear and clementine anchor the opening, their fruit notes creating an immediate sense of freshness. Neroli plays a role in this phase as well, its floral character adding depth without competing with the citrus. As the top notes settle, peach blossom and jasmine emerge in the heart, each bringing its own quality. Peach blossom contributes warmth and a certain softness, while jasmine adds a richer, more pronounced floral presence. White amber appears as the fragrance moves toward its final stage, providing a base that remains close and subtle rather than overwhelming.
The evolution
The opening stage of Rêve Enchanté belongs to the citrus, its bright quality setting the tone before the heart notes take over. As the fragrance develops, white florals become more prominent, the citrus receding while peach blossom and jasmine hold center stage. This floral heart persists for an extended period, the notes lingering together before the base begins to make itself felt. White amber arrives gradually, settling against the skin and supporting the remaining florals rather than replacing them. The drydown has a warmth that stays close, a quiet presence that rewards attention. The white amber phase is a defining part of the scent, bringing the composition to a place that feels intimate and complete.
Cultural impact
Van Cleef & Arpels approaches fragrance as it approaches jewelry: each composition a precious object to be worn and treasured. Rêve Enchanté, released in 2015, fits naturally within this philosophy, a spring-inspired scent that whispers rather than shouts. The brand's commitment to craftsmanship and elegance is evident in the way the fragrance is structured, each note given room to exist without rushing toward the next. It is an offering that asks for patience, rewarding those who take the time to notice its nuances.
