A house, in its own words
The roots of Terre del Garda lie along the shores of Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, a region where alpine air meets Mediterranean vegetation. The town of Salò, a historic resort on the lake's western shore, has long served as the brand's home, with the company operating from Via Napoleone 8. The house's name itself, meaning 'Lands of Garda,' signals the geographic specificity that defines its identity: every fragrance and home scent is conceived as an expression of this particular place in Lombardy. The earliest documented fragrance releases from the brand date to 2015, including the compositions Peler and Ora. In 2016, the catalog expanded with Bali and Vinessa, followed by Isola del Garda in 2017, named after the small island visible from the lake's western coast. The most recent release, Tassoni 225, arrived in 2022, marking nearly a decade of continuous production. This relatively compact timeline positions Terre del Garda as a young house in a country with centuries of perfumery tradition, yet one that draws heavily on the deep cultural and natural heritage of its immediate surroundings. Lake Garda itself carries remarkable weight in European cultural history. Its shores hosted Roman poets, Renaissance travelers, and Romantic-era visitors who celebrated its mild climate and dramatic scenery. By anchoring their work to this specific landscape, the founders situate their young brand within a far older narrative of place. Terre del Garda approaches perfumery as a form of geographic portraiture. Rather than chasing global trends or building a broad commercial catalog, the house focuses on translating the sensory atmosphere of Lake Garda into wearable and ambient compositions. The brand's own language describes fragrances meant to fill spaces with the aromas of earth, wind, and water, a triad that reflects the elemental forces shaping the lake's microclimate, from thermal winds to mineral-rich soil. The creative vision appears deeply tied to memory and emotion. One description of their early work references pouring unique feelings and emotions into a perfume, suggesting an approach rooted in personal narrative and sense memory rather than abstract concept. This positions each fragrance as an attempt to bottle an experience of place, the sensation of standing on a lakeshore, walking through cypress groves, or catching the scent of lemon trees carried by an updraft. A clear philosophy also emerges through restraint. With only six perfumes released over nearly a decade, the house favors deliberate pacing over volume. Their work spans both personal perfumery and home fragrance, suggesting a belief that scent should permeate daily life, not only special occasions. The result is a body of work that reads less like a commercial catalog and more like a curated archive of a single landscape.
