Heritage
A house, in its own words
Sasva Parfums emerged from a desire to place Indian perfumery on the global niche fragrance map. The brand was founded by Sriman Subramanian, who chose to position his house among Indian artisans rather than seeking validation from Western fragrance capitals. This decision reflected a deliberate cultural commitment: rather than calibrating his work to fit existing expectations of what a niche fragrance house should be, Subramanian built Sasva around distinctly Indian references, including fragrance names drawn from Urdu and Hindi literary traditions. The house launched its first collections around 2022, with releases like Fruit Du Paradis Phal-e-Jannat and L'Amour Libertin Eshqh-e-Aazaad establishing the brand's aesthetic vocabulary. Each subsequent year brought new expressions, with the house expanding its thematic range from poetic love stories to atmospheric landscapes inspired by specific Indian locations. The growth of the brand's Instagram following to 20,000 followers by 2025 indicated growing international interest in contemporary Indian perfumery as a distinct creative category.
The guiding principle at Sasva holds that fragrance operates beyond mere smell. The house designs each creation to trigger memory, emotion, and cultural resonance. This philosophy manifests in how the brand names its fragrances, drawing from Urdu poetry, philosophical concepts, and literary expressions that carry layers of meaning in their original languages. Terms like Shanthi (referencing Sanskrit philosophical traditions), Saaqi (the wine bearer of Persian poetry), and Sapna (dream in Hindi) connect each scent to specific emotional or cultural territories. The brand's self-description emphasizes craft, culture, and emotion as equal pillars, suggesting that ingredient quality alone does not define a Sasva creation. Instead, the house seeks to translate abstract emotional states into olfactory form, asking wearers to engage with fragrance as an artistic experience rather than a cosmetic product. This approach positions Sasva within what the brand calls modern Indian artistic perfumery, a category defined by cultural specificity rather than global neutrality.
