Heritage
A house, in its own words
The house traces its origin to 1945, when Giuliana Camerino (née Coen, December 8, 1920 – May 10, 2010) and her husband Florindo founded a fashion label in Venice in the months following the end of World War II. One source dates the formal establishment to 1946, reflecting the gradual postwar consolidation of the business. Giuliana adopted the name Roberta di Camerino for the brand, sourcing it from a personal source rather than a literal family member, and the name would go on to define her public identity as a designer. By the 1950s, the label had opened its flagship on St. Mark's Square, anchoring the brand to one of Europe's most visited fashion addresses and giving it an immediate association with Venetian luxury. The Camerinos' early work concentrated on printed silk scarves and handbags, both of which became closely identified with the house and remain among its signature categories. Over the following decades, Giuliana Camerino expanded into ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories while maintaining a small, curated approach to expansion. Fragrance entered the portfolio in the late twentieth century, with the first men's and women's launches arriving in the early-to-mid 1990s. By the time of Giuliana Camerino's death in 2010, the fashion house she started roughly sixty-five years earlier was still active in Venice, an uncommon continuity for an Italian label of her generation. Giuliana Camerino built her house on a clear principle: that fashion and craft should draw directly from the visual language of Venice, its art, architecture, and textile traditions. The brand's stated approach fuses history, culture, and design into a single creative viewpoint, with print and color serving as the primary expressive tools. Rather than following the rapid seasonal churn of larger Italian houses, Camerino cultivated a consistent signature aesthetic that she refined over decades, an unusual commitment that defined the brand's identity both in fashion and, later, in fragrance. The perfume line reflects this same continuity, drawing on the heritage categories the house is known for (scarves, accessories, Venetian luxury goods) and extending them into scent. The brand describes its fragrances in terms of tradition, character, and timeless elegance, positioning them as extensions of a personal style rather than standalone products. Giuliana Camerino's approach to design was also deeply personal: she reportedly chose nearly every fabric, print, and color scheme herself well into her later years, preserving a single creative vision across the label's many product categories.
