A house, in its own words
Cengiz Yatagan established Puzzle Parfum in 2023, bringing with him over a decade of experience in art production that began in 2012. The Istanbul-based house emerged from Yatagan's desire to translate narrative concepts into olfactory form, creating perfumes that function as chapters in an unfolding story rather than standalone products. This approach draws from his background in visual arts, where he had been exploring themes of fragmentation and completion. The name Puzzle reflects this foundational concept: each fragrance represents a missing piece that, when combined with others, helps the wearer merge with their own identity. In the house's inaugural year, 2024, five fragrances launched including Lal, Fibonacci, Daylight, Purgatory, and Sarcastic. The two-series structure, Hiss and Derun, divides the collection into eight distinct olfactory narratives. The brand's About section describes this organization as designed to help wearers complete the missing pieces of their personal puzzle. Yatagan's artistic philosophy centers on creating work that lives on as art once finished, a principle that shapes both the conceptual framework and material execution of each release. The house operates at the intersection of art production and fragrance creation, positioning itself as a platform for ongoing sensory exploration rather than a traditional perfume brand. Puzzle Parfum operates from the conviction that fragrance serves as a narrative medium rather than merely a sensory product. Each perfume functions as a chapter in a larger story, with the collection structured to offer wearers multiple entry points into an evolving olfactory journey. The house rejects gendered marketing conventions, organizing its eight perfumes under the genderless Hiss and Derun series. This approach aligns with Yatagan's broader artistic practice, which treats scent as a form of contemporary art capable of communicating complex emotional and conceptual content. The brand explicitly describes its mission as helping wearers merge with themselves through the completion of their personal puzzle, suggesting a therapeutic or introspective dimension to the fragrance experience. Rather than emphasizing seasonal relevance or trend responsiveness, Puzzle Parfum maintains a pace of development that prioritizes conceptual coherence over commercial volume. The 2024 releases demonstrated this approach, with five distinct fragrances arriving simultaneously to establish the house's narrative range. Upcoming work including Gece, Nagamani, and Rayiha continues this methodology, with each fragrance conceived as a standalone chapter rather than a follow-up to previous releases. The philosophy treats the wearer as an active participant in meaning-making rather than a passive consumer, inviting personal interpretation of each scent's narrative implications.
