The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oakcha created Sarang to make the sunlit warmth and sweet spice of high-end citrus-fruity compositions accessible to a wider audience. Inspired by the indulgent character of Xerjoff's Erba Pura, the brand set out to distill that same sunny, sweet, and slightly warm feeling at a fraction of the cost. The name carries intention: sarang means warmth and affection, and the fragrance aims to deliver exactly that through its bright opening, pleasant heart, and cozy drydown. Oakcha approached the composition with a clear philosophy of accessibility without sacrifice, building a fragrance that reads as genuinely polished rather than budget-compromised.
The note selection in Sarang reflects a philosophy of warmth and accessibility. Bergamot was chosen for its ability to provide citrus brightness without the single-dimensional sharpness that lemon alone might produce. The decision to use a general fruit note for the heart allows the opening citrus to remain the most distinctive element while still providing a smooth transition into the warmer drydown. White musk appears earlier than in many compositions, threading through the heart to extend the clean feeling established by the citrus and preparing the skin for the warm embrace of amber and vanilla.
The evolution
Sarang begins with an energetic citrus opening that establishes immediate brightness and optimism. Bergamot, lemon, and orange work in concert, with each note contributing its own character to create an opening that feels both vibrant and balanced. Bergamot brings its signature complexity, lemon adds crisp energy, and orange provides the sweet fruitiness that sets up the heart phase. As the fragrance develops, the citrus gradually recedes and the general fruitiness of the heart takes center stage, sustained by an early integration of white musk that keeps the composition feeling clean and airy. The drydown represents the fragrance's most distinct phase, with white musk, amber, and bourbon vanilla combining to create warmth and intimacy. Bourbon vanilla stands out as the drydown's most prominent character note, bringing a natural sweetness that echoes the orange from the opening while adding depth and comfort. Amber amplifies this warmth while white musk provides a clean counterpoint that prevents the drydown from becoming too heavy.
Cultural impact
Citrus aromas have long been woven into the social fabric of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures, where they symbolize hospitality, celebration, and renewal. In traditional gatherings, the scent of orange and lemon is used to welcome guests and mark festive occasions. Modern consumers echo this heritage, seeking fragrances that evoke a sense of shared history while fitting contemporary lifestyles. By blending bergamot, lemon, and orange, Sarang captures that timeless spirit, offering a bridge between ancient rituals and today’s everyday moments, reinforcing a collective appreciation for bright, uplifting notes that resonate across generations.
