Heritage
A house, in its own words
MARIA CHER entered the fragrance world in 2017 with the launch of four simultaneous releases known as the Dieciocho series, comprising Dieciocho, Dieciséis, Diecisiete, and Veinte. The simultaneous debut of four distinct fragrances marked an unconventional entry strategy for a new brand, suggesting a fully formed creative vision from the outset rather than a gradual development process. The label's founder, María Cherñajovsky, brought her eponymous fashion background to the fragrance category, translating a personal aesthetic into olfactory form. The brand expanded its offerings over subsequent years, releasing Zarci in 2020 and its concentrated Elixir variant, followed by the Onyx collection beginning in 2021. The label continued its expansion with Onyx Elixir and Onyx Rouge in 2022, Speak Love in 2023, and a reformulated Zarci in 2023. Each collection appears to explore distinct olfactory territories while maintaining a coherent creative thread across the brand's portfolio.
The MARIA CHER approach to perfumery centers on personal expression and artistic vision, reflecting the sensibilities of its founder. The brand's name directly connects the fragrance line to its creator, suggesting an intimate relationship between the scents and their originator's aesthetic sensibilities. The label's numbering system for its debut collection, with each fragrance assigned a Spanish number rather than a traditional name, indicates a conceptual framework that treats the perfumes as part of a unified artistic statement. The brand appears to prioritize creative exploration over market-driven formulation, as evidenced by the varied direction between releases like the floral Speak Love and the darker Onyx series. The international growth of a label rooted in Argentine fashion heritage suggests an ability to translate culturally specific sensibilities into a broader visual language that resonates across markets.
