A house, in its own words
Manuel Attardi grew up immersed in classical art and mythology, a fascination that would later shape every bottle he created. He studied Art and Design at the prestigious Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where the language of Renaissance masters and ancient myth became second nature. Before turning to fragrance creation, he spent time travelling the world, absorbing cultures and olfactory traditions far beyond his Italian roots. His formal entry into the industry came through Release, a perfume distribution company in Italy, where he gained firsthand knowledge of how scents moved from concept to consumer. Determined to master the craft at its highest level, he enrolled at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, studying in the Provençal town widely regarded as the spiritual capital of perfumery. With training in both fine art and fragrance science, Attardi launched Manuel Attardi Perfumes as an independent house dedicated to compositions that bridge classical storytelling with contemporary sensibility. The debut collection introduced a small portfolio of extrait de parfum creations, each anchored in mythological or literary figures. The house has continued to release new compositions since, maintaining its boutique scale while growing a dedicated following among niche fragrance enthusiasts. As of recent catalogues, eight perfumes have been attributed to the house. Attardi approaches perfumery as a continuation of his visual art practice rather than a separate discipline. Mythology, literature, and classical painting provide the initial spark for every creation. Figures like Venus, Ophelia, and fauns recur as muses, characters whose emotional weight gives each fragrance a narrative center. The creative process begins with an image or story, then translates into raw materials chosen for their symbolic and sensory resonance. Attardi has spoken about a lifelong sense of separation between humanity and something larger, a theme that runs through his debut collection and informs the contemplative mood of his work. What distinguishes the house is this refusal to separate scent from storytelling. Each release reads like a chapter in a visual novel, inviting the wearer to inhabit a character rather than simply smell pleasant. The compositions tend toward the intimate and the literary, favoring extrait concentration and personal application over broad commercial appeal. Independence is central to the ethos: Attardi works outside major corporate structures, preserving full creative control from concept through final formulation.
