A house, in its own words
LAMAR exists within the world of Kajal Parfums Paris, a niche house founded in 2014 by Moe Khalaf and Ibrahim Faris. Both founders share a deep-rooted passion for perfumery and a clear creative vision that bridges cultures. For Khalaf, scent carries personal weight. Growing up in a household where his father's allergies kept fragrance at arm's length, he came to understand how meaningful the simple pleasure of wearing a beautiful scent truly is. That early awareness shaped his conviction that fine fragrance should feel welcoming, expressive, and accessible to anyone who reaches for it. LAMAR emerged as one of the brand's defining creations, a flagship composition that would embody Kajal's cross-cultural identity. The name itself reflects the layered story behind the brand, drawing from the French lumière, meaning light, and evoking warmth, radiance, and quiet luxury. The house enlisted master perfumer Mark Buxton, a British-born, Hamburg-raised nose with more than 25 years of experience crafting fragrances for some of the industry's most respected names, to bring the vision to life. Buxton's signature restraint and material sensibility made him a natural fit for a concept rooted in richness without excess. The collaboration between Buxton and the Kajal team produced LAMAR in 2020, a launch positioned as a statement of intent. It marked the brand's arrival as a serious creative force within the niche landscape, signaling that the house intended to compete at the highest levels of perfumery while maintaining its own distinct voice. The fragrance itself, an amber floral framed by fruity brightness and deep, balsamic undertones, captured attention quickly and earned a place in many curated collections. At the heart of LAMAR sits a simple but exacting idea: fragrance should feel rich, natural, warm, and made to last. Mark Buxton described his creative intention precisely, and that clarity runs through every facet of the composition. Rather than chasing trends or relying on shock value, LAMAR leans into the timeless appeal of carefully selected naturals, materials that breathe on the skin and evolve gracefully over hours of wear. The house positions each scent as something tailored to the wearer, crafted to feel uniquely yours from the very first spray. That sense of personal connection matters deeply to Kajal's co-founder Moe Khalaf, whose own family history with fragrance made him acutely aware of how personal scent can be. The brand resists the idea of fragrance as decoration. Instead, it treats perfume as something closer to an extension of identity. Kajal's broader philosophy, which LAMAR embodies fully, centers on cultural dialogue. The house draws equally from Middle Eastern perfumery traditions and European refinement, refusing to privilege one over the other. The result is a creative vision that prizes balance: brightness against depth, freshness against richness, the familiar set against the unexpected. LAMAR stands as a clear expression of that outlook, offering a scent that feels both grounded and quietly ambitious.
