Heritage
A house, in its own words
The company was founded in 2014 under the name Essentia srl, with Riccardo Chionna and Gianni Salini serving as CEOs. From the outset, the founders chose to root the project in Puglia, a region known more for its agricultural output and masseria culture than for perfume houses. The founders articulated early on that fragrance, despite its ancient origins, remained a living and relevant form of cultural expression. Rather than relocate production to established perfumery capitals, the team committed to building the entire creative and manufacturing chain within the region. Over the following years, the line expanded from personal fragrances into home fragrance categories, broadening the sensory world of the brand while keeping production local. The house's identity remains inseparable from the landscape that inspired it, a deliberate choice that distinguishes it from Italian fragrance brands that historically clustered around Florence, Venice, or Milan. The creative vision at Essentia Puglia rests on the conviction that a region can speak through scent as powerfully as through its cuisine or its architecture. Rather than chasing globalized olfactive trends, the house looks inward to Puglia's olive groves, coastal herbs, citrus orchards, and almond groves for its raw vocabulary. Mediterranean notes are not used as decorative accents but serve as the structural foundation, with contemporary accords woven through to keep the compositions relevant to modern wearers. The brand frames perfume as an extension of place, a portable expression of a specific terroir. This philosophy extends beyond fragrance into a broader celebration of Apulian craftsmanship and the slow, seasonal rhythms that govern life in southern Italy. There is a conscious resistance to the idea that quality perfumery must originate from Grasse or Paris, and an insistence that regional identity and rigorous composition can coexist.
