The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bri Beyer's 2022 collection from Damask Haus opened with Strawberry Festival as its fruit-forward entry. The name promises sweetness, but the nose behind it had other plans. Rather than build a sugar bomb, the composition treats strawberry as a guest passing through a greener space. Grass comes first, fruit follows. Soil finishes the arc. The festival here isn't a circus. It's a Saturday morning field before anyone else arrives, the kind where you can still hear the crickets from last night. The grass feels close, almost auditory, the scent of blades splitting underfoot. Then a warm berry wash rolls in, tempered by all that greenery, never collapsing into candy. The soil note keeps the whole frame grounded, earthy and a little mineral, pulling each phase back toward the root of the thing.
What makes this one interesting is how little it tries to please. Strawberry is one of the most difficult notes in perfumery. It's thin, prone to smelling synthetic or candy-like, and disappears fast if it isn't anchored. Beyer chose to fight that by surrounding it with something heavier than itself. The grass-and-soil frame gives the strawberry somewhere to land. It reads more like a botanical sketch than a dessert, and that's the move. You're not eating the fruit. You're walking through where it grew.
The evolution
The first ten minutes smell green and a little sharp. Cut grass, the way it sticks to your shoes and smells vegetal rather than fresh. The strawberry arrives around the fifteen-minute mark, soft and slightly warm, never reaching full jam sweetness. It hovers. Then the soil tincture starts pulling the whole thing earthward, and the composition settles into something quieter than you expected. By the second hour, the fruit has mostly faded and what's left is a green-brown base, grassy still but dampened, like lawn clippings after rain. The dry-down carries a faint loam note, damp and mineral, with just enough sweetness clinging to the edges to remind you a strawberry was ever there. On fabric the next morning, you'll catch a faint sweet-earth trace, more memory than presence.
Cultural impact
Within Damask Haus's 2022 lineup, Strawberry Festival sits as the entry that pulls toward the ground rather than toward the dessert plate. The result is a niche fragrance that reads more botanical than gourmand, fruit in a perfumery context rather than a confectioner's display case. The composition earns its place by refusing the obvious route. Strawberry becomes a visitor in a green room rather than the star of a sugar show. Grass and soil do most of the structural work, with the fruit arriving as a warm accent that never overstays. Wearers who want berry without the bakery find something here worth returning to.
