The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Andes Creme Candies was conceived by perfumer Bri Beyer in 2022 as a tribute to the sweet, airy treats found in high-altitude markets of the Andes. The name evokes the creamy candies that melt on the tongue while the crisp mountain air swirls around them. Damask Haus, an indie house founded in 2021, draws from this visual of thin air and confection when building its fragrances, and Bri Beyer translates that contrast into a scent that feels both refreshing and comforting. The mint and air accord in the opening directly reference the crispness of high-altitude atmosphere, while the chocolate captures the melt-in-your-mouth richness of the candies themselves.
Bri Beyer built Andes Creme Candies around the idea of contrast: cool mint against warm chocolate, bright air against soft musk. Each layer is chosen to reflect a different sensory element of the Andean candy experience, from the first breath of mountain air to the lingering sweetness that stays on the palate. The air accord gives the mint something to float on, preventing it from feeling sharp or medicinal, while the chocolate provides enough body to keep the scent interesting without tipping into gourmand territory. Musk grounds the whole composition, making it feel wearable and personal rather than performative.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with mint and an air accord that instantly conjures the sensation of cold, thin air on a mountain peak. This opening is clean and effervescent, setting a tone of lightness and brightness before the scent deepens. As the mint settles, the chocolate heart emerges smoothly, adding warmth and a touch of sweetness that feels creamy rather than heavy. The progression from cool to warm mirrors the experience of eating a candy that begins crisp in cool air and softens as it dissolves. In the drydown, musk wraps everything in a soft, skin-close embrace, ensuring the scent feels Intimate and comfortable rather than projecting loudly into the room.
Cultural impact
Among indie fragrance circles, Andes Creme Candies sparked conversation for its daring mix of mint and chocolate, a pairing rarely seen tog ether. Wearers often cite it as a conversation starter at gatherings, noting its ability to feel both nostalgic candy and modern cool. It sits alongside Damask Haus’s experimental line, reinforcing the house’s reputation for unexpected yet wearable creations.
