Heritage
A house, in its own words
Câline emerged from the vision of Célène Bouchard, a former marketing executive who grew up in the perfume‑rich region of Grasse. In interviews published in 2020, Bouchard explained that the brand’s name combines her own nickname, "Câline," with a nod to the French word for "affection," signalling a personal, intimate approach to scent. The company was formally registered in Paris in 2018, and its first fragrance, Fleur Noir, launched in early 2020 after a year of development with an independent perfumer whose identity remains undisclosed. The launch coincided with a modest pop‑up in Le Marais, where the brand emphasized tactile discovery over digital hype. 2021 marked a productive year: Classic Silver arrived, followed by Mon Amour and Intense Gold, each accompanied by a limited‑edition glass bottle designed in collaboration with a local glassblowing studio. In 2022, Câline introduced Infinite Navy and Rouge Intense, expanding its palette to deeper, more saturated hues. The following year, the house opened a small boutique on Rue Saint‑Honoré, offering bespoke consultations and a curated selection of its existing line. 2024 saw the release of Madame Chérie, a fragrance that references the brand’s early inspiration from Parisian cafés, while 2025 will bring Elixir Floral, a scent built around sustainably sourced orchid absolutes. Throughout its first decade, Câline has maintained a steady output, avoiding the rapid churn of mass‑market releases and instead focusing on craftsmanship, modest growth, and a cultivated community of scent enthusiasts who value depth over volume. Câline’s creative vision rests on three pillars: authenticity, restraint and dialogue. The brand states that a perfume should act as a quiet conversation between the wearer and the surrounding world, rather than a loud proclamation. This philosophy translates into a deliberate avoidance of overt marketing slogans; instead, Câline lets the scent speak for itself in intimate retail settings and through detailed scent‑cards that explain each note’s origin. Sustainability is woven into the brand’s values: ingredients such as Moroccan ambergris substitutes, responsibly harvested French lavender, and fair‑trade Madagascan vanilla are chosen not only for their olfactory qualities but also for their ecological footprint. Câline also embraces a collaborative ethos, regularly inviting emerging perfumers to co‑create limited editions, thereby fostering a sense of mentorship within the niche community. The house’s statements, as reported by independent fragrance blogs, emphasize a respect for the craft’s heritage while encouraging contemporary reinterpretation, a balance that seeks to keep the tradition alive without turning it into a museum piece.
