The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud built Allegra Chill & Sole around a Mediterranean axiom: the best moments happen where sun meets shade. The name itself is the concept, Chill and Sole, the cool of a shaded terrace and the warmth that never quite leaves. Released in 2024 as part of Bvlgari's Allegra collection, this is the house translating its Roman heritage into something you wear on skin, not just on wrist. Bvlgari has always dealt in boldness, colored gemstones, geometric daring, the Italianate confidence of someone who never needed permission. Chill & Sole takes that energy and softens it into something more personal. The perfumer sought clarity over complexity.
The note structure of Chill & Sole is unusual in its restraint. Most fragrances build from top to bottom, bright opening, evolved heart, settled base. Here, the composition centers on a core quartet of Italian lemon, neroli, orange blossom, and petitgrain. Neroli and orange blossom share the same botanical source but diverge in character: neroli delivers a more delicate, slightly bitter floral impression; orange blossom absolute adds cream, honey, and a subtle indolic warmth.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and bright. Italian lemon announces itself without apology, sharp, sparkling, almost astringent in its clarity. Within minutes, neroli softens the edges. Orange blossom adds a creamy floral layer. Petitgrain threads through everything, keeping the citrus grounded in something herbal and slightly bitter. As the fragrance develops, the lemon begins to recede and the white florals take over as the dominant impression. The heart phase is where Chill & Sole earns its name. The florals don't bloom dramatically, they settle, becoming intimate and close to the skin. This is moderate sillage at work: present to the wearer, noticeable to someone standing nearby, but never filling a room. The lemon doesn't disappear entirely, it lingers as a background brightness, a memory of the opening.
Cultural impact
Bvlgari's Allegra collection has found its audience among those who want Mediterranean warmth without performative complexity. Chill & Sole fits squarely into that lane, fresh, citrus-forward, and unmistakably Italian in its casual elegance. Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud brings that same sensibility to Chill & Sole, crafted with the same standards as any luxury composition, but aimed at the moment rather than the statement. It's the fragrance equivalent of good Italian design: confident in its simplicity, and never trying too hard.
