The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Caroline Dumur worked with Damask rose and Rose Essential, the brand's signature accord, building a composition around two distinct rose expressions. An Indian herb with a green, slightly bitter edge, davana adds unexpected complexity to the blend. Pink pepper at the top keeps the opening honest. The rose doesn't overwhelm, instead it settles into the composition with warmth and depth, finding balance between floral richness and something more restrained.
Davana plays a central role in 106, bringing a green quality that adds an herbal dimension to the blend. An Indian herb with a slightly bitter edge, it introduces an element of complexity that distinguishes the composition. The rose and davana interact, with the herb providing contrast to the floral sweetness. The vanilla that follows adds depth and texture, blending into the overall composition rather than standing alone. This is a rose that maintains structure and presence throughout its development.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly. Pink pepper provides a spark at the top, a quick brightness that introduces the composition. The rose and davana arrive together, warm and soft, with davana lending a green note underneath the sweetness. The davana continues to shape the experience, keeping the rose from becoming overly sweet. As time passes, the vanilla becomes more apparent, taking on a creamier quality as it blends with the musk at the base into something powdery and intimate. The drydown is a gradual transition, a slow exhale. Vanilla settling softly against the skin, warm and close. The rose remains present throughout, holding the composition together as other elements fade.
Cultural impact
The collection offers transparent compositions that appeal to fragrance enthusiasts seeking clarity in their choices. 106 represents an approach to rose and vanilla that incorporates davana as a distinctive element, creating something worth exploring for those interested in how different notes interact within a familiar accord.
