Heritage
A house, in its own words
Beauty Pie was founded in December 2016 by Marcia Kilgore, a serial wellness entrepreneur with a track record of building recognizable beauty and lifestyle brands. Her previous ventures include Bliss Spa, which she sold to Levi Strauss in 1999, followed by the mass-market brand Soap & Glory, and later the footwear company FitFlop. The concept for Beauty Pie reportedly came to Kilgore in Milan, following a visit to suppliers based in the region known colloquially as Lipstick Valley. Observing the gap between manufacturing costs and retail pricing reportedly sparked the idea for a different kind of beauty business. Rather than competing in the traditional retail space, Beauty Pie positioned itself as a members club, offering access to products at factory prices. The company launched with cosmetics and skincare, partnering with elite manufacturing facilities to produce its offerings. For several years, the brand focused primarily on these categories before expanding into fragrance, a natural extension that arrived in 2022, marking a new chapter for the membership club and attracting attention from fragrance enthusiasts seeking accessible luxury. Beauty Pie's approach to perfumery centers on accessibility and creative freedom. Rather than positioning itself as a traditional fragrance house, the brand operates within its membership model, allowing members to access scents at prices that bypass typical luxury markups. The company partners with established perfumers and grants them considerable creative latitude. The perfumers Frank Voelkl, Sidie Lancesseur, and Serge De Oliveira have each contributed distinct signatures to the collection, working without the commercial constraints often imposed in traditional fragrance development. Each scent reflects an individual creative vision, from intimate vanilla compositions to more complex, wandering narratives. The philosophy extends from the brand's broader mission of democratizing access to well-made products. Rather than positioning luxury as an exclusive category, Beauty Pie argues that artistry and craftsmanship should be more widely shared. In perfumery, this translates to a curated selection that emphasizes olfactory distinctiveness over mass appeal. The brand presents itself as a conduit between members and artisan perfumers, highlighting each creator's particular approach and technique.
