The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wish of Love arrived in 2008 as part of Avon's Wish collection, a line built around aspiration, desire, and the idea that a fragrance can hold something you want. The name says it plainly: this is a scent about longing, about the sweetness of wanting something and the comfort of reaching for it. Avon designed the Wish line to translate emotion into olfactory language, creating fragrances that felt personal rather than performative. Wish of Love takes that brief and keeps it light, no drama, no declaration. Just the soft, tart, floral expression of something hopeful.
Cranberry gives Wish of Love its unusual opening, tart and almost effervescent, like biting into a berry on a cold morning. That brightness is intentional: it sets the tone for a fragrance that refuses to start heavy or stay somber. Cherry blossom takes over as the heart develops, soft and powdery with a quiet sweetness that doesn't beg for attention. The addition of hortensia (hydrangea) is unusual, it's not a standard perfumery note, lending the heart a watery, garden-fresh quality that keeps the florals from cloying. Together, these materials build something approachable rather than complex. This isn't a fragrance meant to reveal itself in layers. It's meant to be worn and enjoyed, then worn again.
The evolution
The cranberry opens clean and tart, lasting perhaps fifteen minutes before the florals begin their slow arrival. Cherry blossom appears first, soft, almost almond-like, followed by the quieter entrance of rose and hortensia. By the second hour, the composition has settled into something close and intimate, the florals blurring together into a single warm impression. The musk base arrives late, skin-close, the part of the fragrance that lingers after everything else has quieted. On fabric, it can hold for several hours more. On skin, expect around three to four hours of presence, moderate, never overwhelming, always there when you remember to notice it.
Cultural impact
Wish of Love occupies a specific corner of the market: the affordable, everyday floral worn by people who want something pleasant without committing to a signature. It draws comparisons to Chanel Chance eau Tendre in spirit, both occupy the same fresh-floral territory, though Wish of Love stays closer to skin and shorter in duration. For many, that's the point. Not every fragrance needs to be a statement. Sometimes you just want to smell good and move on.
