A house, in its own words
Giorgio Armani founded his fashion house in Milan on 24 July 1975 alongside his partner Sergio Galeotti, after years learning the trade as a display assistant and buyer at the Italian department store La Rinascente. The label quickly reshaped modern Italian dressing with its softened tailoring and relaxed silhouettes. The first foray into fragrance came in 1981 with Giorgio by Giorgio Armani, followed by an expanded perfume launch in 1982 that established Armani as a serious player in beauty, not only fashion. Through the 1990s the house widened its scent portfolio across the Armani name. Armani Privé emerged as a distinct haute parfumererie collection, conceived as an olfactory counterpart to the Armani Privé couture line. Rather than treating perfume as an accessory, the house built it as a private atelier offering, with compositions tied to specific couture inspirations and intended as collectible pieces of the brand's creative world. Today the collection spans multiple thematic ranges, each rooted in a couture reference point, and continues to be presented as part of the broader Armani beauty universe while retaining its own identity as the most elevated tier of the house's fragrance work. Armani Privé treats fragrance as couture in liquid form. Each composition is built around a specific couture reference, a fabric, a palette, a mood, a moment from the runway, and translated into scent through the same disciplined eye Giorgio Armani applies to garment construction. The creative vision rests on restraint and precision. Where many luxury perfume houses chase spectacle, Armani Privé leans into controlled elegance, favoring compositions that feel tailored rather than theatrical. The idea is that a Privé fragrance should sit on the skin the way a Privé jacket sits on the shoulders: composed, considered, unmistakably Armani. The collection is presented as unisex, reflecting the house's longstanding belief that style is not gendered. Materials are chosen with the same care a couturier applies to a bolt of silk, and the resulting scents are meant to function as personal signatures rather than seasonal trends.
