Heritage
A house, in its own words
Anna Paghera grew up in a family whose connection to plants stretches back five generations, a lineage that shaped both her surname and her vocation. In the ancient local dialect of the Lombardy region, 'Paghera' reportedly refers to the fir tree, an etymology that anchors the family identity in the natural world. Anna shares this inheritance with her brother Gianfranco, and together the siblings carry forward what the brand describes as 'green genes', a term that reflects generations of cultivation, horticulture, and direct engagement with the land. Based in Lonato, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, Anna Paghera built her fragrance house on the sensory archive she accumulated from childhood: the gardens, the forests, the wild herbs, and the cultivated flowers she grew up among. The launch of her ambient perfume line translated that private olfactory memory into a public creative language. The brand's presence at Pitti Fragranze 2019 in Florence confirmed its standing within Italy's independent fragrance scene and introduced its environmental, nature-led concept to a wider European audience. What began as a personal extension of family expertise gradually expanded into a multidisciplinary practice that now encompasses fragrance creation, interior design, and garden design. Anna Paghera treats these disciplines as interconnected rather than separate, a position reinforced by her collaborations on curated events and installations that merge scent with physical space. The house remains family-rooted, with Anna and Gianfranco Paghera continuing to guide its direction from their Lake Garda home base. Anna Paghera approaches perfumery as an act of remembering. She has spoken of drawing from olfactory memory, the scents she has lived with, breathed in, and absorbed since childhood, to give form to her line of ambience perfumes. This places personal biography at the heart of the creative process: each composition begins as lived experience and only later becomes a bottled object. The result is a catalog where fragrance names evoke distant geographies and remembered landscapes, from the greens of Kent to the blues of Arabia. The brand's values extend beyond fragrance into a holistic relationship with the natural world. Anna Paghera views scent, interior space, and garden design as a single continuum, an idea that informs both her product development and her broader commissions. Magic and mystery, qualities she associates with the ancient ingredients of perfumery, are recurring themes in her work, presented not as marketing language but as a genuine reverence for the botanical materials themselves. Her philosophy resists the industrial model. Instead of scaling at the expense of material integrity, Anna Paghera maintains a practice where each fragrance can trace its inspiration to a specific memory, place, or plant. This positions the house closer to artisan perfumery than to mass-market home fragrance, and explains the small-batch sensibility that runs through collections like the 'colors of' series (Verde, Turchese, Arancio, Blu, Bianco, Giallo, Azzurro, Rosso), where each shade carries its own narrative geography.
