A house, in its own words
Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro, known professionally as Alejandro Sanz, was born in Madrid on December 18, 1968. His passion for music emerged early, and by 1991 he had released his debut album Viviendo Deprisa, marking the beginning of a career spanning over three decades. Throughout his musical journey, Sanz accumulated significant recognition, including 24 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards, establishing him as one of Spain's most decorated musicians. His discography includes studio albums ranging from that 1991 debut through El Disco in 2019, his most recent studio album. The decision to move into perfumery came as an extension of his artistic identity. The name Mi Acorde refers directly to synesthesia, a neurological phenomenon where sensory experiences intertwine, specifically the ability to perceive sounds as having distinct smells. This concept became the creative foundation for the fragrance collection, representing a literal translation of his artistic process into a new medium. The fragrances were developed with Tailored Perfumes, a Spanish fragrance house, ensuring domestic production aligned with Sanz's Spanish roots. The 2019 launch introduced both masculine and feminine expressions, with 2021 bringing expanded variations under the Eres Tu sub-line. At the core of Mi Acorde lies the concept of synesthesia, the neurological phenomenon where one sense triggers another. For Sanz, this connection between sound and smell is not metaphorical but experiential. The fragrances carry names that suggest harmony and connection, reflecting his belief that artistic expression transcends individual disciplines. Mi Acorde, meaning 'my chord' in Spanish, captures the idea that each perfume represents a note in a broader composition, much like chords form the building blocks of music. The duality present in the collection mirrors the push and pull found throughout his work: warm and cool, masculine and feminine, familiar and unexpected. Rather than creating separate fragrances for distinct audiences, the line maintains an androgynous sensibility that acknowledges overlap in how scent communicates identity. The 2021 Eres Tu additions expanded this philosophy, deepening the exploration of emotional resonance through olfactory interpretation.
