Heritage
A house, in its own words
Mauro Aprea, a former seafarer, founded Acqua di Sardegna after years of sailing along the Sardinian coast. He reported that the island’s light and sea breezes sparked a desire to bottle the experience. The brand emerged in the mid‑2000s, positioning itself as a tribute to Sardinia’s natural heritage rather than a commercial extension of existing luxury houses. Its first fragrance, Acqua di Sardegna Man Eau de Parfum, appeared in 2008 and captured the salty, woody character of the island’s pine forests and mineral springs. In 2014 the house expanded its portfolio with a unisex Eau de Parfum that blended citrus, marine notes and aromatic herbs, signaling a shift toward gender‑fluid compositions. The 2016 release of Desvélos and Nòis introduced deeper, earthy accords inspired by Sardinian shepherd culture. Scalo Porto Cervo Jet Set arrived in 2022, celebrating the glamorous resort town with a fresh, airy blend that references yacht culture. Throughout its growth, the house has remained independent, distributing through select Italian retailers and maintaining production in small batches to preserve artisanal quality. The brand’s milestones include collaborations with local artisans for packaging, the introduction of a limited‑edition Sandalia collection in 2020, and a partnership with Abaton Exceptional Luxury Brands to reach broader European markets. Each step reflects a consistent focus on place‑based storytelling rather than trend chasing. Acqua di Sardegna frames perfumery as a form of cartography. The house believes that scent can mark a location as precisely as a map. Its creative vision centers on translating Sardinia’s light, sea and stone into olfactory language. The brand values authenticity, sourcing ingredients that echo the island’s flora – such as myrtle, rosemary and wild thyme – and avoids synthetic shortcuts when natural alternatives exist. Sustainability informs its choices; the house prefers suppliers who practice responsible harvesting and supports local producers whenever possible. Rather than chasing fleeting fashions, Acqua di Sardegna aims to create scents that age with the wearer, allowing the fragrance to evolve like the changing Mediterranean tide. The house also embraces a modest aesthetic, letting the story of the scent speak louder than branding. This philosophy guides every decision, from ingredient selection to the quiet elegance of its bottle design.
