Steve Soderholm
Steve Soderholm came to fragrance sideways. A background in music gave him an ear for composition, a sense of timing, and an understanding that every piece, whether a song or a scent, tells a story. He founded Ranger Station in Nashville in 2015 alongside his wife Jordan, building a fragrance studio that refuses to separate the personal from the experiential. His approach treats fragrance less as product and more as narrative. 'The person wearing it makes it their own,' he has said, and that philosophy shapes everything from custom perfume consultations to the brand's broader creative direction. Nine years in, Soderholm continues to lead both the creative and operational sides of Ranger Station, expanding the brand from Nashville into new markets while maintaining the intimate, atelier-style experience that defined the studio from the start. He remains one of the few independent perfumers who built his practice without formal training in Grasse, learning instead through relentless experimentation and an instinct for what moves people.

How Steve composes
Drawing from his musical background, Soderholm structures fragrance compositions with an attention to rhythm and progression. He favors warm, grounded materials that feel connected to the American South without being predictable. Woods, resins, and natural-smelling accords appear frequently in his work, giving Ranger Station fragrances an organic quality that avoids the overly precious or conceptual. His custom work demonstrates technical range, but his signature aesthetic leans toward compositions that feel lived-in rather than laboratory-made.
Philosophy
What drives Steve
Soderholm approaches fragrance as a storytelling medium. He builds scents that serve as frameworks, leaving room for the wearer to project their own memories and associations. Rather than chasing trends, he focuses on creating work that feels personally meaningful, even if that means appealing to a specific sensibility rather than mass appeal. His custom perfume experience, priced at a significant investment, reflects his belief that fragrance becomes most powerful when it becomes truly personal. He has spoken about feeling particular pride in the fragrances themselves, a quiet confidence that comes from building something on his own terms.
