Reminiscence’s Eau de Patchouli arrived in 2009, crafted by Zoe Coste to extend the house’s memory‑driven narrative. The boutique, founded in 1970 on the sun‑kissed promenade of Juan‑les‑Pins, has always paired objects with scent, turning travel souvenirs into olfactory postcards. This edition translates the tactile feeling of a weathered wooden chest, its cedar slats and earthy interiors, into perfume.

Java patchouli, harvested from Indonesian farms, gives the fragrance a dry, almost mineral core, while Virginia cedar adds a crisp, resinous lift. Labdanum and Australian sandalwood deepen the heart with amber‑rich warmth, and a sweet‑spicy base of bourbon vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, tolu balsam and white musk balances the earthiness, creating a luminous yet grounded finish.

At first spray, the Java patchouli bursts forward, a green‑earthy thrust that feels like stepping onto a damp forest floor, instantly supported by the clean, slightly resinous snap of Virginia cedar. Within ten minutes the heart unfurls: labdanum spreads a warm, leathery veil, while sandalwood adds creamy woodiness, letting amber‑sweet bourbon vanilla begin to surface. As the scent settles into its drydown, the base emerges slowly, tonka bean and benzoin introduce a honeyed softness, tolu balsam adds a subtle balsamic depth, and white musk rounds everything with a clean, powdery veil. The lingering trail lasts six to eight hours, leaving a faint, comforting earth‑sweet echo that feels like a well‑worn journal opened at dusk.
