The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything. UTOPIA is inspired by Toamasina, Madagascar's eastern coastline, where lush greenery meets ocean air, jasmine fields stretch toward the horizon, and the air itself carries the warm, salted sweetness of the island. Perfumer Nathalie Benareau built this floral gourmand around that feeling: the coast as a state of mind, translated into pink pepper, jasmine sambac, and bourbon vanilla.
What makes UTOPIA work is restraint. The pink pepper opens clean and bright, a brief spark that catches attention without overwhelming. Then jasmine sambac takes over as the true heart, tropical and creamy, the kind of white floral that stays sweet rather than indolic. No sharp edges. No animalic surprises. The composition earns its 'floral gourmand' label by keeping everything soft, edible, and close to the skin.
The evolution
Pink pepper opens clean and cool, a brief aromatic spark that catches attention. Jasmine sambac takes over within minutes, tropical and creamy, staying close rather than projecting. The drydown belongs to bourbon vanilla: warm, edible, skin-warm. Sandalwood and vetiver soften the sweetness, keeping it grounded rather than cloying. Three hours in, UTOPIA is a skin scent. Close. Intimate. The kind of fragrance you smell on yourself and reach for again the next day.
Cultural impact
UTOPIA joins a growing lineup of floral gourmand fragrances that favor warmth and approachability over complexity or challenge. The 2024 release translates Madagascar's coastal character, warm vanilla, tropical jasmine, soft florals, into a composition that reads as easy and comfortable rather than bold. Nathalie Benareau has crafted something that works without demanding attention.
