Heritage
A house, in its own words
Thomas Sabo launched his eponymous brand on May 8, 1984, entering the silver jewelry market with his own business venture at a young age. He established operations in Lauf an der Pegnitz, a town in Bavaria, Germany, where he arranged for the manufacture of his jewelry designs. The company grew steadily throughout the 1980s and 1990s, building a presence in the German market before expanding internationally. Thomas Sabo positioned itself within the fashion jewelry segment, developing the Charm Club collection that would become its signature line. The company remained closely associated with its founder, who maintained a public profile as the creative force behind the brand. In 2010, Thomas Sabo made the strategic decision to enter the fragrance market, launching its first perfume, Charm Rose Eau de Parfum, at an event in Munich. The scent added what the brand described as a new sensual dimension to the Charm Club collection, which had already achieved commercial success as a jewelry line. This marked a significant expansion beyond accessories into the beauty category. The first men's fragrance, Rebel At Heart, followed in 2012 and reportedly involved perfumer Mark Buxton. Over the subsequent years, the brand extended the Charm Rose line with variations including Intense (2013), Summer (2014), and Beach (2015), while also introducing new fragrance concepts such as Eau de Karma (2015). The company continued operating from its German headquarters while expanding its retail presence across multiple countries. The Thomas Sabo fragrance line reflects the brand's jewelry heritage, treating scent as an extension of personal adornment rather than a standalone luxury. The Charm Club collection, which inspired the fragrance line, centers on the concept of individual expression through collectible charms, a philosophy that translated into fragrance offerings designed to mark moments and personal milestones. The brand approached its fragrance development with accessibility in mind, creating scents that would appeal to a broad audience rather than positioning exclusively within ultra-luxury niches. Thomas Sabo fragrances often feature romantic floral notes, particularly rose, which serves as a visual and aromatic motif connecting the perfume line back to the jewelry collections. The brand's fragrance philosophy emphasizes femininity and emotional resonance, with compositions designed to evoke specific moods and memories. Rather than pursuing experimental or avant-garde perfumery, the brand favored familiar scent profiles with mass appeal. This approach aligned with the broader company strategy of offering fashion-forward products at accessible price points, extending the jewelry brand's market positioning into beauty.
