Heritage
A house, in its own words
Tertia Sensu was founded in Granada in 2012, a city with deep Moorish and Andalusian heritage stretching back over seven centuries. The name itself, Latin for 'third sense,' nods to smell as a sensory category alongside sight and sound. The house remained relatively quiet in its first years before launching its debut fragrances in 2015, the paired compositions Suspiros de la Madrugá Woman and Suspiros de la Madrugá Man, whose title translates roughly to 'Sighs of the Early Morning,' a phrase resonant with the processions and pre-dawn emotion of Spanish Holy Week. The year 2017 marked the brand's most prolific period, with seven additional releases including floral, fruity, woody, and amber-led compositions. By 2021, the house introduced the Carnal Blends collection, a thematic line built around fantasy-fuelling ingredients and what the brand describes as 'carnal notes,' signalling a shift toward more provocative, sensory storytelling. Operating from the Andalusian region, Tertia Sensu has built its identity outside the dominant French perfume corridors, choosing instead to anchor its creative output in Granada's layered cultural history, where Roman, Nasrid, and Renaissance influences converge. The company profile lists Granada as both its founding location and current base, and it continues to operate as an independent, unfunded perfume boutique. Tertia Sensu's creative philosophy orbits around small-batch production and a commitment to refined composition over commercial scale. Rather than positioning itself within the traditional French haute perfumery model, the house draws on the sensory richness of Andalusia, a region where fragrance has long been embedded in daily life, from orange blossoms in the Vega de Granada to incense in historic churches. The 2021 Carnal Blends collection represents the brand's most explicit articulation of creative vision: a willingness to engage with raw, sensual, and emotionally charged ingredients that push beyond conventional floral or citrus territory. The brand treats perfumery as a form of personal storytelling rather than a mass-market exercise, favouring compositions that invite wearers to project narrative and mood onto scent. This aligns with a broader movement among Spanish independent perfume houses that prioritize olfactory identity over global brand recognition. Tertia Sensu approaches fragrance-making as a craft rooted in patience, allowing each composition to develop through repeated iteration rather than rushing to market. The result is a catalogue that, while modest in size, reflects a deliberate point of view shaped by place, season, and emotion.
