Heritage
A house, in its own words
Hierbas de Mallorca was established in 1998 on the island of Mallorca, one of Spain's Balearic Islands in the western Mediterranean. Operating as a family business, the house positioned itself within a regional tradition of small-scale perfumery and herbal liqueur production that has long been part of Mallorcan culture. The brand took its name and creative cue from the local herbal heritage of the island, translating it into a fragrance collection rather than a spirits line. By 1999, the house had released its signature fragrance, also called Hierbas de Mallorca, which became the anchor for everything that followed. The company has remained a modest, independently operated enterprise, with its base in Palma de Mallorca. Unlike many Mediterranean-inspired fragrance projects launched in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Hierbas de Mallorca has not pursued aggressive international expansion, choosing instead to maintain a tight catalog tied directly to its island origins. The creative vision behind Hierbas de Mallorca centers on capturing the sensory profile of the island itself. The brand draws on three recurring natural elements: the sea breeze that moves inland from the Mediterranean coast, the purple fields of lavandin that color parts of the Mallorcan interior, and the orange groves that have defined the island's agriculture for centuries. Together these form the conceptual backbone of the collection. Rather than chasing global trends or mass-market appeal, the house prioritizes a local, place-based identity. It presents its fragrances as a tribute to Mediterranean living, with formulations intended for everyday use rather than special-occasion display. The brand's positioning as a family business reinforces an ethos of continuity and personal involvement, where the same values that shaped the early catalog continue to guide new releases.
