Heritage
A house, in its own words
Stato d'Animo emerged in Milan in 2016, founded by a small collective of fragrance enthusiasts who wanted to create scents that reflected everyday emotions. The founders chose the name "Stato d'Animo" to emphasize the link between inner state and olfactory expression. Their debut release, Audace, arrived in the spring of 2016 and was followed by five companion fragrances later that year, forming a cohesive family that explored boldness, sensuality, eccentricity, lightness, whimsy and irreverence. In 2017 the brand opened a modest studio showroom in the Brera district, allowing customers to experience the scents in a curated setting. By 2018 Stato d'Animo secured distribution in select boutique retailers across Europe, gaining coverage in niche fragrance publications such as Fragrantica and Now Smell This. A 2019 collaboration with a local glass atelier introduced limited‑edition bottles that highlighted Italian craftsmanship. The brand celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2021 with a retrospective exhibition at the Museo del Profumo in Florence, showcasing original sketches, raw material samples and early prototypes. In 2023 Stato d'Animo expanded its line with a seasonal collection that paired each core fragrance with a complementary scented candle, reinforcing the idea that scent can shape both personal and interior spaces. Throughout its history the house has remained independent, reinvesting revenue into research on natural extracts and sustainable sourcing practices. Stato d'Animo treats fragrance as a mirror of feeling rather than a marketing label. The creators believe that a scent should echo the nuance of a single mood, whether it is daring confidence or quiet playfulness. Their creative process starts with a word—often an Italian adjective—that defines the intended emotional tone. From that seed they select raw materials that naturally embody the concept, avoiding synthetic shortcuts unless they serve a clear artistic purpose. The brand values transparency, so it publishes ingredient lists and sourcing origins on its website. It also supports small‑scale farmers in regions such as Grasse, Calabria and the Balkans, ensuring that each note carries a traceable story. Sustainability informs every decision: the house uses recycled glass for its bottles, partners with carbon‑neutral couriers, and limits batch sizes to reduce waste. By aligning scent with sentiment, Stato d'Animo invites wearers to own their emotional landscape and share it subtly with the world.
