Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of SŚAINT begins with two friends, Ciara and Elle, who documented their early experiments on Instagram in early 2020. Their posts reveal a shared commitment to ethical sourcing and a desire to create scents that feel inclusive, regardless of gender. By mid‑2020 the duo released a debut collection that included Birthday Suit, Holiday, Smokeshow, Twenty Two, Cosmic Bang, Cowboy Water, No Vacancy, Privé, Velvet Bloom and Speakeasy. The rapid rollout of ten distinct fragrances in a single year signaled a bold entry into a market dominated by legacy houses. In 2021 SŚAINT introduced a Discovery Set, a curated sampler that highlighted the brand’s clean‑ingredient philosophy and offered consumers a low‑commitment way to experience the range. The following year the brand expanded beyond perfume, launching a home‑ritual set that paired a scented candle, a soft towel and a mini‑bottle of Twenty Two Sweet & Woody. This move reinforced SŚAINT’s view of scent as a lifestyle element. By 2023 the label secured a temporary pop‑up space in the Sydney CBD, allowing customers to experience the fragrances in person and meet the founders. Throughout its first four years, SŚAINT has remained a small‑scale operation, hand‑crafting each batch in a Sydney studio and maintaining a transparent supply chain that favors vegan‑certified and sustainably harvested ingredients. The brand’s evolution reflects a broader shift in Australian niche perfumery toward transparency, inclusivity and environmental responsibility. SŚAINT’s creative vision rests on three pillars: clarity, inclusivity and stewardship. The brand defines clarity as a scent language that avoids unnecessary complexity; each fragrance presents a focused accord that can be recognized without a laboratory. Inclusivity drives the decision to make every perfume gender‑neutral, allowing anyone to wear a scent that matches mood rather than identity. Stewardship appears in the sourcing policy: ingredients are chosen for low ecological impact, many are vegan‑certified, and packaging prioritises recycled glass and minimal plastic. The founders have spoken about treating fragrance as a ritual, encouraging users to layer scents over time rather than rely on a single signature. This approach aligns with a growing consumer desire for products that support personal expression while respecting the planet. SŚAINT also embraces education, offering a Discovery Set that includes scent cards describing ingredient origins and recommended layering techniques. By demystifying perfumery, the brand hopes to empower consumers to build their own olfactory narratives.
