The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sixteen92's Spring 2017 Collection looked backward to a specific gilded moment: turn-of-the-century Paris, the Belle Époque, when art nouveau flourished in every surface. Enfant Terrible translates that era's contradictions into scent. The perfume opens with an immediate burst of honeysuckle, its sweetness thick and almost waxy, carrying the unmistakable scent of summer evenings and climbing vines. There's a soft animalic edge that keeps the florals grounded, preventing them from feeling purely decorative. The composition builds on this floral foundation with warm, fruity undertones that give the top notes somewhere soft to rest.
What makes this composition interesting is the tension between the tropical fruits and the honey. Papaya and apricot could easily become jam; the clover honey could become sticky. Neither does. The honey has a green, almost vegetal quality that keeps the sweetness from flattening. Meanwhile, the papaya brings a milky, almost lactonic undertone that adds depth without heaviness. The blond woods in the base are doing quiet work, adding warmth and structure without announcing themselves. It's the kind of composition where the individual notes are less interesting than how they behave together.
The evolution
The top opens immediately with honeysuckle, heady, climbing, slightly animalic in the way real honeysuckle always is. There's a soft, rounded quality beneath the bright florals, suggesting sun-warmed stone and the thick green of leaves. As the scent settles, the honeysuckle deepens and takes on a honeyed richness, the initial brightness mellowing into something warmer and more intimate. The florals remain present but lose their sharpness, becoming a soft backdrop rather than a declaration. The drydown reveals a smooth, skin-like warmth that lingers close to the body, with woods and subtle sweetness holding the composition together without announcing themselves. The fragrance maintains its character for hours, with the honeysuckle and warm undertones staying longest, becoming a quiet presence on the skin rather than a loud statement.
Cultural impact
The house is known for gothic atmospherics and dark narratives, but this 2017 release went warm, golden, and almost pastoral. The Belle Époque inspiration, a period of artistic excess wrapped in ornamental beauty, provides a rich backdrop for this golden, honeyed perfume. The scent captures something specific and evocative: afternoon light, the sweetness of honeysuckle climbing in summer heat, the warmth of sunlit gardens. It's a departure from the house's darker tendencies, offering instead a bright, open quality that feels both nostalgic and celebratory.
