A house, in its own words
The story of Profumi d'Artista begins with Silvia Monti, a pharmacist whose passion for scent dates back to childhood, long before she ever formulated a commercial fragrance. For years she absorbed the world of aromas through her training in pharmaceutical sciences, studying how volatile compounds interact with the body and the emotions. Her earliest documented release, a limited woody-fresh composition called Eros, appeared in 2013 and offered an early signal of her creative direction: fragrances that feel composed rather than merely marketed. After years of private experimentation, she formally launched Profumi d'Artista in 2024 through the Artefice Group, introducing six personal fragrances at once, an unusually bold debut that signaled confidence built over a decade of quiet preparation. The collection's names, drawn from Italian poetic and alchemical imagery, reflect a sensibility rooted in literary and medicinal tradition. Her more recent compositions, including Mastro del Cuore (A Soffi) in 2024, suggest an artist still developing her vocabulary rather than repeating past successes. Throughout, the project has remained small-scale and closely supervised, with Monti herself described as both author and curator of the line. Silvia Monti approaches perfumery through the dual lens of a scientist trained in the laboratory and an artist drawn to the emotional resonance of scent. She treats fragrance as a form of intimate self-portrait, an idea echoed across independent commentary on the brand: perfume is not an accessory but an extension of the individual's inner state. The name Profumi d'Artista, literally Artist's Perfumes, reflects a conviction that composing a scent requires the same intentionality as painting or writing. Her choices of evocative, almost cryptic titles like Essenza Miracolosa, Polvere di Etere, and Iniezione di Morfina suggest she values suggestion over declaration, inviting the wearer into a story rather than dictating one. Monti's pharmaceutical background infuses her creative process with a precision uncommon in artistic perfumery: doses are measured, materials are weighed, and the final blend is treated as a formulation as much as an artwork. The result is a line that resists mass-market categorization, aimed instead at listeners rather than crowds.
