Heritage
A house, in its own words
Isabelle Masson established Sabé Masson as a distinct venture in the French fragrance landscape, drawing on her reported experience as one of the original founders of Sephora. Her background in the beauty retail sector shaped her approach to fragrance, leading her to question conventional perfumery practices. The house emerged with a differentiated concept that positioned fragrance as a care product rather than purely a luxury accessory. Around the mid-2010s, the brand expanded its leadership when Boris Gratini, known for co-founding the nail care brand Nailmatic, joined as a partner, bringing digital and cosmetics industry expertise to the house. The collaboration reflected a broader trend of beauty entrepreneurs diversifying beyond their original categories. Sabé Masson built its identity around the skincare fragrance concept, creating products that could serve both aromatic and moisturizing functions. The house maintained its French roots while developing an international presence, with fragrances crafted in Grasse, the historical heart of French perfumery. The brand's trajectory from 2015 through 2025 shows consistent releases across multiple fragrance families, from the Divins Alcools series to the skincare-focused lines that arrived more recently. Sabé Masson operates from the premise that fragrance should do more than smell pleasant. The house considers the relationship between skin and scent, proposing that traditional alcohol-based perfumes can be replaced or supplemented by formulations designed to care for skin while delivering fragrance. This approach emerged from questioning why perfumery had settled into a format dominated by high alcohol content when other delivery systems existed. The skincare fragrance concept treats fragrance as part of a broader wellness routine rather than a final luxury touch. The brand's language emphasizes purity and function, suggesting that eliminating alcohol from the formula removes an element that can dry skin and alter scent projection. Rather than positioning fragrance as purely decorative, Sabé Masson frames its products as tools that serve multiple purposes simultaneously. The philosophy extends to ingredient selection, where the brand prioritizes formulations that can receive certification for moisturizing properties. This stance represents a departure from conventional perfumery wisdom that has long treated alcohol as an essential carrier for aromatic compounds.
