A house, in its own words
Rocco Barocco was founded by Gennaro Muscariello, who adopted the more theatrical name Rocco Barocco upon entering the fashion world. Born in Naples in 1944, he moved to Rome where he launched his first business partnership in 1964, spending a decade refining his aesthetic before opening his own showroom at Rome's iconic Piazza di Spagna in 1974. The fashion house quickly became synonymous with bold, sensual design that merged southern Italian drama with Roman elegance. Rocco Barocco expanded into Milan by the late 1970s, cementing its position in Italy's luxury fashion landscape. The brand's fragrance division arrived later under the Italart Co. parent company, applying the fashion house's house codes to the art of scent. Over the decades, the label has maintained its identity as an accessible yet unmistakably chic Italian brand, bridging high fashion and daily glamour with consistency. The Rocco Barocco fragrance philosophy draws directly from the brand's fashion identity: clothes and scent as armor, expression, and invitation. The house believes fragrance should carry the same emotional charge as a striking silhouette, layering contrasts the way the label layers structure and fluidity in its garments. Each fragrance aims to feel like a personal signature rather than a trend, rooted in Italian sensuality but open to broader influences. The brand's Italian identity runs through every composition, not as a literal reference but as an attitude, confident and warm. There is a democratic spirit in how Rocco Barocco approaches fragrance, making designer-level craftsmanship available beyond the exclusive channels of high perfumery, much like the fashion house itself.
