A house, in its own words
David Falsberg established Phoenicia Perfumes after experiencing hypernosmia, an extremely heightened sense of smell that fundamentally changed his relationship with fragrance. This condition, which he described as newly found, became the catalyst for a complete career shift and the birth of his own perfume house. The name Phoenicia draws from the mythical phoenix, a symbol of rebirth and regeneration that Falsberg connected to his own personal transformation and resilience. As a contributor to Cafleurebon, a respected fragrance blog, Falsberg participated actively in the perfume community before launching his own creations. His first significant release involved a round of natural perfumes that drew attention from established fragrance reviewers and collectors within the niche community. The brand operated exclusively from his vision and hands, with Falsberg handling all creative and production aspects. News of his passing was shared within the fragrance community in late 2024, marking the end of a deeply personal project that reflected his singular tastes and experiences. Phoenicia Perfumes operates without the conventional boundaries of commercial fragrance production. The brand creates scents for what it describes as people looking beyond the edge of the counter, treating fragrance as a form of artistic expression rather than mere personal grooming. Falsberg viewed his work as life told through fragrance, with no boundaries and no limitations constraining the creative process. This approach placed the house firmly in the artistic niche category, appealing to collectors who value individuality and unconventional olfactory narratives. The philosophy rejected mass-market considerations in favor of personal vision, with each fragrance serving as a distinct creative statement rather than a product designed for broad appeal.
