The Pink Friday fragrance emerged directly from Minaj's breakthrough in music. Her debut studio album, Pink Friday, arrived in November 2010 and established her reputation as the Queen of Rap, a title she frequently references. The fragrance, released in September 2012, carried the album's name and served as an extension of her brand into consumer products. The partnership involved Give Back Brands, a company specializing in celebrity fragrance development, along with Elizabeth Arden, which provided distribution and prestige beauty positioning. This structure placed the collection within the established celebrity fragrance system that had produced high-profile launches for other performers. Following the initial success, the brand expanded with Minajesty in 2013, named after her self-styled monarchy. The Pink Friday Deluxe Edition followed the same year, and Onika launched in 2014, taking its name from her birth name, Onika Tanya Maraj. The collection continued through 2015 with The Pinkprint, referencing her second studio album. Additional releases followed in subsequent years before the 2023 launch of Pink Friday 2, which coincided with her album of the same name and marked a direct sequel to the original fragrance.
