Heritage
A house, in its own words
Nell'Inconscio - 第二间 is a young house by any commercial standard, founded in 2025, yet it arrives carrying the instincts of an older practice. Italian perfumer Francesco Vidili launched the project as a sensory philosophy experiment rather than a traditional perfume label. The bilingual name signals the project's scope: 'Nell'Inconscio' from Italian for 'in the unconscious,' and '第二间,' Chinese for 'second room,' together suggesting an interior space waiting to be opened. The timing places Vidili's work within a wider current of independent perfumers treating scent as a medium for personal and emotional archaeology. Rather than drawing on a century-old archive or a family lineage, the house builds its heritage in real time. Every release is positioned as a chapter in an unfolding dialogue between European olfactory tradition and East Asian aesthetic sensibility, particularly the Chinese cultural reverence for inner space, restraint, and indirect expression. Because the brand is new, its milestones are intellectual and conceptual rather than commercial. The founding announcement itself was treated as an opening statement, a manifesto on scent as a path to the parts of ourselves that language cannot reach. Nell'Inconscio - 第二间 frames fragrance as a route inward. Francesco Vidili begins from the premise that the most powerful scent responses happen before the rational mind intervenes, in the liminal space where memory, mood, and instinct converge. The compositions are designed to meet the wearer there. The name itself encodes the method. The 'second room' is the unconscious, a place you enter by closing a door behind you. Vidili builds perfumes that function as that door: compositions that loosen the grip of expectation and invite something less controllable to surface. What separates this project from more conventional niche perfumery is its refusal to lean on marketing shorthand. There are no pyramid diagrams, no seasonal pyramids, no promises of 'signature' status. Each work is treated as an experiment in feeling, a proposition to be lived with and interpreted personally. The house speaks to wearers who treat fragrance as a contemplative practice rather than a finishing touch.
