A house, in its own words
Musky Perfumes Ltd was officially incorporated on 9 August 2022 under UK company number 14284748, placing the brand's formal origins in the early 2020s. The name Musky carries a longer fragrance history beyond the company itself. In 1919, the house of Vigny launched a women's fragrance called Musky, later renamed Rainure, with a bottle designed by René Lalique. That historical usage reflects how the word 'musky' has long been associated with sensual, skin-close compositions in Western and Eastern perfumery traditions alike. The modern Musky house draws on that association, building a portfolio of oud and musk compositions including Tanaghum, Kayan, Allayl, and Azraa in 2022, followed by Shujoun, Layl Malaki, and Oud Bouquet in 2023, and Shurouq and Zekrayat in 2024. The release cadence within the brand's first three years points to a deliberate focus on building a diverse catalog quickly, anchored in Arabian-inspired naming conventions. The brand's naming conventions reveal a creative sensibility drawn from Arabic language and poetic imagery. Titles such as Layl Malaki (meaning 'my angel night'), Shurouq (meaning 'sunrise'), Zekrayat (meaning 'memories'), and Fairouz (the Arabic word for turquoise, shared with the legendary Lebanese singer) suggest a curatorial approach that treats each fragrance as a narrative or emotional state. Tanaghum translates to 'melody' and Allayl to 'night,' reinforcing the idea that scent and language are intertwined in the house's creative process. This poetic orientation positions Musky within a broader tradition of Arabian perfumery where fragrance is conceived as an extension of language, memory, and place, rather than purely as a cosmetic product. The result is a catalog that reads like a collection of short poems, each composition offering its own emotional register.
