A house, in its own words
Mahdi Perfumes emerged in Pakistan as an independent artisan project, with founder-led origins that trace back to the early 2020s. The house's earliest documented release, Eauddiction, appeared in 2021, marking the point at which the perfumer began sharing compositions publicly. Rather than emerging from a long-established family business or corporate parent, the brand grew out of a personal passion for fragrance formulation, with the founder reportedly working from a dedicated blending space and building a catalog one composition at a time. By 2023, the line had expanded to include Fougre Classique and Elaichi, both released that year, and in 2024 Magnificent Orris continued a clear interest in orris as a creative signature. The trajectory so far suggests a house still in its formative years, building its catalog and audience one release at a time rather than operating on the scale of an established regional brand. The creative direction at Mahdi Perfumes centers on personal artistic satisfaction and the perfumer's own curiosity, with each fragrance positioned as an expression of the maker's vision rather than a response to market trends. The house gravitates toward a mix of Western classical structures and South Asian-influenced notes, as seen in compositions like Tuberose Vanile and Elaichi (the Hindi/Urdu word for cardamom). This blend of traditions suggests a perfumer comfortable drawing from both European perfumery conventions and the olfactory palette familiar from the Indian subcontinent. Rather than mass-producing or chasing mainstream appeal, the house keeps its releases selective and concept-driven, treating each scent as a discrete creative statement. The result is a catalog that reads like a personal journal of olfactory experiments rather than a commercial product line.
