Heritage
A house, in its own words
The Lumira story began in 2013 when Almira Armstrong, working in marketing, decided to leave the corporate world behind. Armstrong had long been fascinated by scent and its power to evoke place and memory. She started experimenting with fragrance layering, combining existing scents to create something entirely personal. That hands-on approach to fragrance quickly attracted attention. Friends and acquaintances began requesting their own custom blends, and a business began to take shape. Armstrong formalized her vision into Lumira, establishing the brand as one of Australia's first dedicated niche fragrance houses. The early years focused on perfume oils, allowing Armstrong to explore concentrated, wearable interpretations of her favorite notes. By 2018, Lumira had expanded its collection significantly and began collaborating with external models and celebrities, including Australian model Nicole Trunfio on The Vow. The brand received its B Corp certification in the early 2020s, cementing its commitment to ethical business practices. Today, Lumira operates from Sydney while shipping its fragrances internationally, maintaining the personal, curated feel of a small atelier despite its growth. Lumira operates on a core belief: fragrance should tell a story. Every release begins with a narrative, a memory, or a place that Armstrong wants to translate into scent. This approach keeps the creative process grounded in emotion rather than trend-following. The brand resists seasonal pressure or annual release cycles, choosing instead to develop fragrances only when a story feels complete. Lumira positions itself against the idea that perfume is merely cosmetic. Instead, each bottle functions as a vessel for experience. The brand works with world-class collaborators and materials sourced with care, but the philosophy prioritizes intention over abundance. Lumira describes its creations as bold, evocative, and crafted with care by the founder herself. The result is a collection that feels cohesive without being formulaic, united by Armstrong's distinctive voice rather than a house accord or marketing strategy. For Lumira, perfume is a form of storytelling that happens to be worn on the skin.
