Why it exists.
The beginning
Perfumer Véronique Nyberg drew inspiration from the Caribbean coastline, where the Amyris tree known as "candle wood" has long served as natural kindling for fishermen's torches. The resinous branches burn with a soft, incense-like flame, a image that Nyberg sought to capture in liquid form. Partnering with LabSolue's commitment to low-temperature distillation, she extracted the essential oil from amyris with care for its most delicate aromatic facets. To balance this raw, smoky material, she selected LabSolue's signature warm sandalwood, creating a partnership between creamy wood and resinous wood that feels intuitive and grounded.
Nyberg's philosophy with 212 Amyris centers on restraint. Rather than constructing a fragrance with multiple stages and reveals, she selected three materials that could coexist in equilibrium. Black pepper adds the necessary spark to keep sandalwood and amyris from becoming overly heavy. Amyris brings an authenticity rooted in its folkloric use as a light source. Sandalwood grounds the composition with its familiar warmth. Tog ether, they form a fragrance that requires no apology for its simplicity.
