Heritage
A house, in its own words
Koton was founded in 1988 in Istanbul by the husband-and-wife team Gülden and Yılmaz Yılmaz. What began as a tiny 25 square meter boutique in the Kuzguncuk neighborhood, opened with roughly two thousand dollars in starting capital, grew into one of Turkey's most recognized ready-to-wear retailers. In 1992, the brand moved into wholesale, supplying ready-to-wear collections to other retailers across the country. From those early days, the founders focused on making contemporary fashion affordable and broadly appealing, a philosophy that shaped every expansion that followed. Over the following decades, Koton built a network of hundreds of stores, reportedly reaching more than 460 locations, and extended into beauty and accessories. Fragrance became a natural extension of the brand's lifestyle vision. Koton Beauty now offers perfumes for women and men, often promoted through seasonal campaigns such as Valentine's Day gift collections. Today, Koton stands among the larger Turkish fashion houses with an international footprint, bringing Istanbul-rooted design sensibility to fragrance lovers across multiple regions. Koton approaches fragrance the same way it approaches clothing: with an eye on what people actually want to wear right now. The brand's creative direction leans modern, youthful, and inclusive, aimed at customers who see scent as part of a complete personal style rather than a rarefied luxury. Rather than positioning perfume as an elite art form, Koton frames it as an accessible finishing touch, something to be collected, swapped, and enjoyed alongside seasonal wardrobe updates. The line serves both women and men, suggesting a philosophy rooted in variety and self-expression rather than a single signature mood. This fashion-house sensibility also shapes how fragrances are presented: as giftable, trend-responsive products that fit naturally into the rhythm of retail. By keeping its perfume offerings aligned with its ready-to-wear identity, Koton delivers a cohesive lifestyle vision where every element, from a new jacket to a new scent, speaks the same visual and emotional language.
