Why it exists.
The beginning
Narcıssus arrived in 2022 from Hope Istanbul, a Turkish house. The name itself borrows from the narcissus flower, but the scent leans elsewhere: passionfruit, white florals, vanilla. The brand's Historical Peninsula collection uses Istanbul as its narrative engine, and Narcıssus sits within that world. Gökhan Şimşek composed it as an extrait de parfum at 30% concentration. The brand describes it as the elegant face of Istanbul at the height of sensuality, which is a fair starting point before the juice itself rewrites the terms. From the first spray, the passionfruit announces itself with an almost aggressive brightness, a tart, almost fermented sweetness that recalls ripe fruit left too long in afternoon sun.
What makes Narcıssus interesting is the contradiction at its center. Tropical fruit notes (specifically passionfruit and mandarin) sit beside white floral depth from tuberose, and that pairing doesn't usually cooperate. Passionfruit wants brightness, almost sharp, while tuberose pulls toward creamy, narcotic intensity. Şimşek bridges them with vanilla and amber, which act less like base notes and more like a softening agent poured over the whole composition. There's fruit, yes, but it's been dressed for somewhere with tablecloths.
The evolution
The opening belongs to passionfruit and mandarin, bright and almost tart, lifted further by bergamot. This is the sunlit portion, the one that announces itself in a warm room. Soon after, tuberose and the white floral accord begin to surface, and the composition shifts from bright to creamy. The vanilla arrives earlier than expected, settling in and changing the texture entirely. As the fragrance wears, the fruit recedes almost completely, leaving a warm amber and white musk drydown that lingers close to skin. The extrait concentration carries it through the day, with the final hours reading as skin-warm vanilla and soft musk. What survives the longest is the amber-vanilla undertone, which on fabric the next morning still carries a faint sweetness. The transition from top to heart happens gradually, more like a slow color shift than a hard edit.
