Heritage
A house, in its own words
Hildegard Braukmann began her career as a beautician and herbalist in Germany, developing an early interest in the skin-healing properties of plants. In 1962, she founded her own cosmetics company, driven by a desire to create effective, natural skincare formulations rooted in herbal knowledge. She took her background as a trained Kosmetikerin and her deep familiarity with botanicals and built a business that combined professional salon treatments with home care products. The early range centered on facial care, with creams and lotions developed around herbal extracts and essential oils. As the brand grew, it expanded into body care, wellness treatments, and eventually fragrance. The company opened its own training center, the International Beauty Center (IBC), to educate professional beauticians in the Hildegard Braukmann method. In 2004, Hildegard Braukmann passed away, leaving behind a brand that had grown into one of the more recognized natural cosmetics houses in the German-speaking market. Her name continues to anchor the company's identity, and the business remains family-run, carrying forward her original herbalist principles. The company is based in Neuss, on the Rhine, and continues to manufacture in Germany. In 2018, the brand formalized its fragrance portfolio, consolidating its signature scents under the Hildegard Braukmann perfume line. At the heart of the Hildegard Braukmann philosophy is the conviction that skin thrives when treated with the natural intelligence of plants. This is not a marketing afterthought; it is the principle from which Hildegard Braukmann herself built her formulations, and the brand continues to orient around it decades later. The fragrance line follows the same logic. Each scent in the portfolio draws from botanical sources, from citrus mediterra and herbal garden blends to richer compositions like Vetiver & Chocolat, designed to harmonize with the body's natural rhythms rather than overpower them. The brand approaches scent as an extension of skin wellness, offering fragrances that read as clean and considered rather than heavy or synthetic. This positions fragrance within a broader wellness framework, where body, skin, and olfactory senses are treated as a connected system. The company also maintains a strong professional salon ethos, viewing beauticians not as retailers but as trained practitioners who guide clients toward appropriate products and scents.
