No. 04 Cocktail Hour arrived in 2022 from Frau Tonis Parfum. The name says it plainly: this one's for that particular window of the evening when the ice melts, the conversation loosens, and the cocktail menu stops mattering. The fragrance has a quiet confidence that earns its restraint, letting each ingredient breathe rather than crowding the formula with competing voices. The composition runs on just five materials. That's unusual for a warm-spicy build. Coumarin does most of the heavy narrative work alongside tonka bean and patchouli, with bergamot opening cold at the top and musk closing the drydown underneath. The formula reads as deliberately pared back, each note given space to register without shouting over its neighbors.
Coumarin is the molecule that makes tonka bean smell the way it does, warm, almond-adjacent, with a creamy vanillic undertone that lingers. Pulling it out as a named note alongside tonka bean itself is a bit like listing both chocolate and cocoa butter separately. The evolution

It just gradually thickens the base, adding an earthy weight that keeps the sweetness from floating away. Tonka bean coaxes out a smooth, almost caramel quality without ever crossing into dessert territory. Musk settles in quietly underneath, holding the whole composition closer to skin and lending a clean softness that rounds out the warmth. Eventually the fragrance has gone warm, slightly powdery, and intimate. The bergamot is gone.

The 2022 release of Cocktail Hour drew early notice for its restraint. A reviewer described it as an elegant 1950s cocktail hour hosted by a woman in a Dior dress, and that image captures the composition's posture: composed, sensual, slightly capricious. There's a vintage sparkle to the way the bergamot and coumarin play off each other, as if the formula were designed for a room with low lighting and good conversation. The almond and tonka territory gives it warmth without tipping into gourmand sweetness, and the patchouli base keeps everything grounded and a little grown-up.
