The story of Chi Chi begins in Melbourne, Australia in 1997, when two entrepreneurs with complementary expertise decided to build a fragrance house together. George Lambropoulos, trained as a pharmacist, brought scientific rigor and an understanding of chemistry to the venture. His partner Frank Nassiokas contributed business acumen and creative vision. The name Chi Chi carries interesting cultural resonance, appearing as a word in Papiamentu, the creole language spoken in Willemstad, Curaçao, where a boutique artisan shop bearing the name has operated in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed capital city. The brand initially established itself before expanding into fragrance production, releasing its first perfume edition in 2014. This 17-year gap between company founding and fragrance launch suggests a deliberate approach to entering the competitive perfume market, potentially using the intervening years to develop formulations and understand consumer preferences. By 2021, Chi Chi had expanded to approximately 16 distinct fragrance offerings, with the brand demonstrating particular strength in gourmand and floral categories.
