Heritage
A house, in its own words
Carine Roitfeld built a reputation in fashion journalism before turning to fragrance. After leaving Vogue Paris in 2010, she founded the independent magazine CR Fashion Book, a platform that emphasized avant‑garde aesthetics. In 2019 she announced the creation of Carine Roitfeld Parfums, a venture that grew out of conversations with established perfumers, including Dominique Ropion and Aurelien Guichard. The inaugural "7 Lovers" collection introduced seven unisex fragrances—George, Vladimir, Lawrence, Sebastian, Kar‑Wai, Orson and Aurelien—each linked to a personal relationship or artistic influence. The launch took place at The Scent Bar in Los Angeles, a venue known for curating niche perfume releases. Over the next few years the brand added stand‑alone scents, notably Carine in 2022, a floral‑amber composition, and Forgive Me in 2023, a more daring, gourmand offering. While the line remains relatively small, it has secured placement in boutique fragrance shops across Europe and North America, reinforcing Roitfeld's commitment to a curated, intimate perfume experience. The creative vision behind Carine Roitfeld Parfums centers on narrative intimacy. Roitfeld treats each fragrance as a chapter in a personal diary, choosing names that reference people, places or moments that shaped her aesthetic. The brand values authenticity over trend, favoring ingredients that evoke memory rather than simply following seasonal fashions. Sustainability is addressed through selective sourcing; the team works with suppliers who can provide traceable raw materials, especially for rare notes such as Bulgarian rose or Indian sandalwood. Transparency is another pillar: each bottle includes a brief note explaining the inspiration behind the scent, inviting wearers to connect the olfactory experience with a story. This approach reflects Roitfeld's editorial background, where context and backstory are as important as the final image.
