Heritage
A house, in its own words
Arcadia emerged from the Dubai creative scene in 2017, founded by Amna Sultan Al Habtoor, a UAE national who built the brand from her position within the Al Habtoor family business group. Before entering perfumery, Al Habtoor pursued an interest in fragrance that predated any formal training in the field. The decision to launch a fragrance line reflected her desire to capture scent memories and translate emotional experience into wearable form. The brand operated initially as a homegrown venture, growing through word-of-mouth within Dubai's expatriate and Emirati communities. By 2018, Arcadia had released at least eight distinct fragrances, establishing a catalog that covered multiple fragrance families. The brand's emergence coincided with a broader regional trend toward niche and independent perfumery in the Gulf, where consumers increasingly sought distinctive scents outside established European luxury houses. Al Habtoor's dual role as founder and creative lead placed her among the relatively small number of Emirati women leading independent beauty or fragrance businesses. The brand's growth trajectory led to expanded visibility, including features in international fragrance media and interviews with lifestyle publications exploring the Gulf's evolving perfume culture. The foundational idea behind Arcadia centers on the connection between scent and memory. Al Habtoor has described fragrance as a vehicle for reliving moments, suggesting that each perfume should function as a sensory archive. This philosophy shapes how the brand approaches composition, prioritizing emotional resonance over trend-following. The founder's stated fascination with Japanese culture influences the brand's aesthetic sensibility, emphasizing restraint, attention to detail, and an appreciation for the subtle interplay of notes. Rather than pursuing maximum sillage or projection as primary goals, Arcadia's fragrances reportedly aim for a more intimate presence on the skin. The brand also positions itself around inclusivity, with Al Habtoor speaking publicly about creating scents that resonate across the diverse populations residing in the UAE. The cruelty-free commitment reflects an ethical stance that extends beyond ingredient sourcing to encompass the broader production ethos.
